Not His Best Work

This book felt a bit like a long info commercial for vitamin and lab companies. I loved Datis Thyroid book so I came at this new book with high hopes however I was let down. First it is a massive book 587 pages and the biggest weakness is it is poorly organized. The book has no flow instead it jumps form topic to topic. Also the book is heavily focused on supplements (a reflection of Datis relationship with Apex no doubt) and I wanted to see more emphasis on functional neurological therapies like his mention of gargling to stimulate the Vagus nerve... more of that or at least a balance would have been nice. I feel that Datis has just thrown together his lecture notes and inserted testimonials from doctors who use his methods without leading the reader through a natural progression that leads to a final conclusion... because there is no concluding chapter, the book just ends. Also the art work in the text is very urban and graffiti inspired. I actually liked it but it seemed very out of place in a book of this scope. So I did not hate it and I still think Datis is a smart guy but this, to me, fell short of what I expected.

Brilliant, beyond revolutionary, and so practical

Dr. Kharrazian has done it again! His first book on the thyroid was absolutely revolutionary. It gave such hope to many who were suffering with chronic health issues but were unaware that autoimmunity - particularly thyroid autoimmunity - was the underlying cause of their discomfort and ill health. As a nutrition professional who has studied with Dr. Kharrazian and whose clients have benefited enormously from his depth of knowledge and his nutrition strategies, I have been anxiously awaiting this new book. What is presented in this new book is beyond revolutionary! Having personally read the majority of the books on mood, neurotransmitters and brain health over the past fifteen years, I can say without a doubt that this is the most comprehensive and practical book available. If you wish to improve your brain function at the highest level and go beyond what you thought would make a difference - beyond diet, beyond exercise, beyond lifestyle - then you should take to heart every chapter of this book. He helps you understand the complexity of the brain and its interrelationships to the rest of the body and how key strategies for improving brain health can be incorporated into your life each day. When I have shared the principles form Dr K's approach with my clients, I have personally seen people who were so depressed that not even medication could help them, completely recover by improving gut function, addressing gluten sensitivity, and taking targeted nutritional support. I have seen people who were experiencing troubling memory issues regain brain clarity. As you read this book pay close attention to those underlying issues that cause brain fatigue and degeneration, assess your own brain status and then follow his suggestions to improve your brain health at many different levels!!!

Great book.

Wonderful information. I do the elimination diet recommended in this book,( 5 months), and a few products listed in this book. My brain fog has lifted, I have twice as much energy. Still trying to heal my leaky gut. But life is much better. It is a harder read for those who are sick, you may want to skip to the back of the book for the summery.

After listening to the first 6 books of our favorite, Hank the Cowdog, I decided to expand my 5 yo grandson's horizons with another of our family favorites. I have read all of them to my older children but this is the first we've listened to on cd. It is great. It captivated his interest from the start. I do have one minor negative to mention...the voice for Ralph's (the mouse) mother is very annoying to me. It sounds like a stereotypical Jewish or Bronx mother...but Ralph is from California. Regardless, it doesn't bother my grandson and that's what counts. I was surprised that Ralph speaks a little meanly to his little cousins and siblings (not remembering that from the books) but I make little comments to my grandson about it as it happens. We listened to Runaway Ralph right after this one. The next one is not available on cd that I could find, but I will be reading that one to my grandson. He can do the sound effects as I read.

Wonderful, nostalgic adventure story! Great for families

Wonderful, clever book by Beverly Cleary telling the tale of a mouse, a young boy and (of course) a motorcycle. If you are my age (30s) you probably remember these books from growing up. Very nostalgic for my generation - and as I've found out, still very good for all kiddos!

Adjectives for this book include imaginative, adventuresome, clever and funny. Great gook to read aloud for families or perhaps having an older child read alone, I'd guess ages 5-9 would be well suited.

What a little hero!

I first read "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" to my son when he was a little boy, and we both loved it for its humor and its suspense (okay, we all know now that Ralph is not going to die, but having read such books as "Charlotte's Web," "Bambi." and "Old Yeller," that is not a sure thing!). For Christmas this year I gave the book to my granddaughter who is nine. She was familiar with Beverly Cleary and told me she looked forward to reading about Ralph the mouse. The edition I received from Amazon did not have the charming cover shown on the product page, but a more cartoonish Ralph doing wheeles on his motorcycle. I am not sure why there was a difference between what was shown on the product page and what I received. My personal preference is for the more realistic looking Ralph, but I do not think it made any difference to my granddaughter. The book itself is a timeless story of someone willing to risk his life to help another living creature - we should all be so lucky to know a Ralph.

About the Author
A prolific author and respected instructor, Alan Jefferis has taught drafting technology at Clackamas Community College, an Authorized AutoCAD Training Center, for more than 31 years. Prior to that, Mr. Jefferis taught for four years at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. He brings a wealth of professional experience to his writing, including eight years of drafting for structural engineers and 35 years of residential designing. Mr. Jefferis is currently the principal owner of Residential Designs, a design firm specializing in custom, energy-efficient homes. He is a former Autodesk Developer Network member and a former member of the A.I.B.D. Mr. Jefferis obtained his B.S. degree from San Diego State University in 1972 and has authored or co-authored numerous textbooks on architectural drafting and design and effectively working with AutoCAD.

Kenneth D. Smith has been a principal and designer for his own firm for over thirty years. He was co-founder for a structural engineering firm where he served as president for over ten years and head designer for over thirty years. He is currently the principal of Kenneth D. Smith Architect & Associates, Inc., located in southern California. Currently, Mr. Smith is CEO, and Director of Architectural Design and continues to be personally involved in all projects. Mr. Smith's experience with a structural engineering firm coupled with his experience as an architect using AutoCAD and Revit provides smooth integration of structural and architectural requirements, resulting in efficient, quality designs.

Not the greatest book for me

I guess I don't understand construction details, but I didn't understand a single problem in this book. I had to refer to my Construction: Materials, Methods, and Techniques by William Spence in order to answer the review questions. The problems were writtin in short hand with abbreviations I didn't know. I think this book might be a little intimidating to someone who is not familiar with construction or detailing.

About the Author

Chris Le Baudour has been working in the EMS field since 1978. In 1984, Chris began his teaching career in the Department of Public Safety–EMS Division at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California.

Chris holds a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in online teaching and learning as well as numerous EMS and instructional certifications. Chris has spent the past 30 years mastering the art of experiential learning in EMS and is well known for his innovative classroom techniques and his passion for both teaching and learning in both traditional and online classrooms.

Chris is very involved in EMS education at the national level and served six years as a board member of the National Association of EMS Educators and advises many organizations throughout the country. Chris is a frequent presenter at both state and national conferences and a prolific EMS writer. Along with numerous articles, he is the author of Emergency Care for First Responders and coauthor of EMT Complete: A Basic Worktext, and an Emergency Medical Responder Workbook and Active Learning Manual for the EMT-Basic. Chris and his wife, Audrey, have two children and reside in northern California.

David Bergeron was very active in the development of instructional and training programs for the emergency medical services (EMS) for more than 35 years. His early work included a front-row seat to the development of modern patient assessment and care inspired by the studies of Dr. R. Adams Cowley, Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Maryland Institute of EMS Systems, and Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI).

David’s work in instructional development for emergency medicine has included EMT-Basic, Emergency Medical Responder (First Responder), EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic student and instructor programs. He is credited with writing the first comprehensive textbook for the first responder, for establishing the first behavioral objectives for EMTs, and for being the first to develop a full-course glossary for EMT instruction.

As well as having served as an instructional technologist on leading textbooks in emergency medicine, David was on the teaching faculty of the University of Maryland, Longwood University, and numerous community colleges and schools of nursing. His publications include textbooks that have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Lithuanian, and Japanese. David passed away on April 10, 2012, after a long illness.

Great. Bought this one after I was completely ripped off by that piece of garbage the AAOS calls their EMR textbook. I'm already an EMR and am just using this as a reference and also to train lifeguards. This one is fantastic. The organization is exceptional. The design and illustrations are extremely modern. The information is completely up to date and new advances in pre-hospital medicine have been added. The book is extremely thorough. It definitely seems like the authors cared very much about the quality when they wrote it. There are some gaps in information in the patient assesment chapter and that's why I knocked off two stars. Maybe it didn't get edited accidentally because they forgot to talk about the airway step in the primary assessment and barely talked about the primary for responsive patients. This really bothers me as that is some pretty important information. Other then that, the book is fantastic; This is the best and most comprehensive EMR text out there.
